Brita Filter is not just a world-renowned drag entertainer; they are a powerful force for social change and an advocate for the LGBTQ+ community. With a breathtaking ability to blend art and activism, Brita engages audiences in the political arena with flair and conviction. After the pivotal 2016 election, they harnessed their platform to shine a spotlight on critical issues facing the LGBTQ+ community. Collaborating closely with organizations like the AIDS Healthcare Foundation and Impulse Group International, the leading HIV/wellness nonprofit, Brita has tirelessly worked to create healthier and safer spaces for gay men. Through lavish international events, Brita has fostered environments that unite and empower the community, earning the esteemed title of Impulse Queen of the Year three years running.
In 2019, Brita made headlines at the Women’s March in Washington, D.C., where they notably confronted anti-LGBTQ protestors, an act of bravery that inspired their award-winning podcast, "You Brita Vote." This thought-provoking series invites state representatives, activists, and leaders from various political organizations to discuss pressing political issues, all while stressing the vital importance of participating in every election.
As the National Co-Chair of Drag Out the Vote, Brita has played an instrumental role in motivating and mobilizing voters across the country. Through moderating essential panels and hosting text banks, they combine entertainment with civic engagement, earning three consecutive World of Wonder Wowie Awards as “Registrar of the Year.”
In recognition of their impactful activism, Brita received the prestigious “Marsha P. Johnson Award” in 2022, celebrating their nationwide efforts to uplift the LGBTQ+ community. They were honored to be invited by President Biden to the White House for the signing of the Respect for Marriage Act, representing drag queens in a proud display of unity at the White House’s Pride celebration in 2023 and 2024.
Known for their dynamic performances and electric stage presence, Brita has captured the hearts of audiences, garnering nine NYC nightlife Glam Awards, including “Entertainer of the Year” and “Best Host” for multiple consecutive years. They actively host LGBTQ+ nonprofit galas nationwide and delight audiences with weekly shows at iconic NYC bars like Stonewall, Pieces, and Hardware.
Brita's illustrious career has also crossed into television and film, with appearances on SNL, Broad City, and as a correspondent on The Daily Show with Trevor Noah. They gained international acclaim as the first Polynesian queen on season 12 of RuPaul’s Drag Race and starred in Fusion TV's groundbreaking series, Shade: Queens of NYC.
Making history as the first drag queen speaker at the Annual DNC LGBTQ+ Gala alongside VP Kamala Harris, Brita continues to inspire with numerous political speaking engagements. In 2024 they proudly served as NextGen America’s Digital Grand Marshall for Pride, dedicated to empowering the LGBTQ+ community, ensuring every vote counts, and championing the rights and future of our community with passion and purpose!
Brita launched the dynamic 'Queens for Kamala' initiative with the DNC during Kamala Harris' 2024 campaign, teaming up with drag queens nationwide to bring fabulous flair and fundraising power to support her candidacy.
